At Focused Conservation, supporting and strengthening the wildlife crime units such as the Uganda Wildlife Crime Unit (UWCU) remains at the core of our mission. These dedicated officers work tirelessly to combat wildlife trafficking across the country, often operating in high-risk, unpredictable environments. Their courage is unmatched—but even the best need tools and training to stay safe while taking on organized crime.
Recognizing the risks these brave men and women face daily—from road collisions and physical assaults to injuries involving weapons—Focused Conservation recently conducted a comprehensive training needs assessment. The result was clear: the UWCU would greatly benefit from specialized medical training tailored to the realities of their operational work.
In response, we’re proud to announce that in June, the UWCU will participate in an intensive First Responder Trauma Training course, led by a Specialist Medic Trainer from SIRM (Security, Intelligence & Risk Management), a UK-based company known for its expertise in high-risk training and tailored security solutions.
This training will equip UWCU officers with the critical skills, confidence, and readiness to respond effectively to life-threatening emergencies in the field. Whether treating trauma from an ambush or stabilizing a team member after an accident, these lifesaving capabilities could make all the difference.
“We are thrilled to begin what we hope will be a long and impactful partnership with SIRM. Their experience in delivering specific, mission-critical training is a perfect match for our work on the frontlines of conservation enforcement,” said Wim Brown, CEO of Focused Conservation.
At Focused Conservation, we believe in more than just building teams—we build capabilities. And this is just one more step in ensuring our partners in Uganda have everything they need to stay safe while protecting some of the world’s most threatened wildlife.
Stay tuned for more updates from the field as this training kicks off.
