Operation Steward: UWCU Rescues Two Endangered Pangolins in Kyenjojo

In a successful operation led by the Uganda Wildlife Crime Unit (UWCU), two live tree pangolins were rescued on October 15, 2024, in Kyenjojo. Acting on intelligence, UWCU operatives intercepted a trafficker attempting to sell the pangolins, resulting in the arrest of one Ugandan national. Following a health check by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), the pangolins were released into Kibale National Park.

Since 2018, the UWCU, with support from Focused Conservation and UWA, has led 731 operations, resulting in 379 arrests and the seizure of multiple trafficked species, including ivory, rhino horns, and pangolins. This operation underscores the UWCU’s commitment to fighting wildlife crime and protecting vulnerable species across Uganda.
